As we become interspiritual, we need new ways to celebrate old holidays. This Guide offers a script for celebrating Hanukkah anew. An evolutionary journey awaits your guests as you lead them through 3 forms of celebrating. Each form includes and transcends the one before it, mimicking evolution’s process. Doing so makes the experience memorable, meaningful, inclusive, spiritual and relevant for a global culture.
Part One highlights the holiday of Hanukkah in its traditional form.
Part Two provides an imaginary interfaith dialogue around the theme of lights. In this Guide, Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa are included. You may add others.
Part Three is an interspiritual experience of this festival of light.
Optional: A bonus challenge for kids and a fantastic latka recipe are included.
Here are 3 Ways to Use this Guide:
1. Turn the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah into an interspiritual experience for Jewish-Interfaith families, congregations, or religious schools. Consider how other Jewish holidays can be “revisited” for creating a new interspiritual experience with Judaism.
2. Add more “festival of light” holidays, such as Diwali, for new “interfaith dialogues” between the holidays in Part Two. (Yes, the holidays talk to each other!)
3. Use this guide as an example to “revisit” holiday celebrations for all religions.
